Smash Boom Best producers Aron Woldeslassie and Anna Weggel are really hungry, but neither of them knows what to eat! To help with the hunger pangs, they play a round of Tasty Mystery Sound. Much like the iconic Brains On! Mystery Sound game, Tasty Mystery Sound has players taking noisy bites of real food before asking the other to guess what they’re eating. Grab your Smarty Pass to hear what Anna and Aron are chowing down on!

ANNOUNCER: Now entering Brains On! Headquarters.
[BEEPING, WHIRRING]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Ugh, Smarty Pal, thank goodness you're here. Smash Boom Best producer Anna Weggel and I are starving.
ANNA WEGGEL: When Smash Boom Best producer Aron Woldeslassie asked me to help him move, I didn't think we'd get lost at sea for nine days.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Anna, all right, we've only been moving furniture for three hours, OK? We're fine.
ANNA WEGGEL: OK, well, that's what it felt like. I'm sorry. I am sorry, I just get really grumpy when I haven't eaten.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: That's totally understandable. That's why we're in the [? labra ?] kitchen to grab some tasty snacks.
ANNA WEGGEL: [SIGHS]
But what did we eat first?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Um, can I interest you in some pickled toenails?
ANNA WEGGEL: [SIGHS]
No.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Maybe some jellied pig ears?
ANNA WEGGEL: No, I just had that for breakfast.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK, OK. Oh, how about some southern camel brains with broccoli?
ANNA WEGGEL: Ew, broccoli, gross.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: [SIGHS]
Well, what do you want to eat then?
ANNA WEGGEL: I don't know. I've got so many options, too many, in fact. Ah! I'm paralyzed by the options!
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: [SIGHS]
Oh, I know what we could do. Let's play Tasty Mystery Sound.
ANNA WEGGEL: Yeah! Wait, what's that?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: It's like the classic Brains On! game Mystery Sound, but the sounds come from us eating our favorite foods. So once we take a bite, sip, or chomp, the other player has to guess what we're eating.
ANNA WEGGEL: What an utterly delicious game.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: I'm glad you think so. All right, I'll go first. Take a listen to me chewing, sipping, or biting, and guess what food I'm eating, OK?
ANNA WEGGEL: OK, I'm so excited. Ah!
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: All right, here's the first one.
[CRUNCHING]
ANNA WEGGEL: Oh, I know. I know what it is.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: What is it?
ANNA WEGGEL: You, my friend, are eating a Cool Ranch Dorito.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Oh, my gosh, that is so intimidating. You're so close.
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: It's barbecue--
ANNA WEGGEL: Is it a nacho--
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: --flavored.
ANNA WEGGEL: Ah! Wait, a barbecue Dorito?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: It's a barbecue-flavored chip. That's amazing. You got it right on the first try.
ANNA WEGGEL: [CHUCKLES] OK, amazing. All right, is it my turn?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Yes, it's absolutely your turn.
ANNA WEGGEL: OK, here we go, here we go. Here we go, here we go.
[CRUNCHING, CHEWING]
Oh, so good.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK. OK. I'm hearing a little crunchy. I'm hearing some tasty savory action. And you said it was so good. And something I know about you, Anna, is that you're in love with your vegetables, as well as your fruits.
ANNA WEGGEL: [CHUCKLES]
Mm-hmm.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: And as we all know, the best vegetable is carrots. I'm going to say baby carrots because I imagine you stole it from your daughter, Luna.
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS]
You are wrong.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Ah!
ANNA WEGGEL: But it is a fruit. Let me give you one more, OK?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK.
[CRUNCHING, CHEWING]
ANNA WEGGEL: Oh, so juicy.
[CHEWING]
Wow.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK.
ANNA WEGGEL: Whoo!
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK, so it's like a firm, juicy fruit.
ANNA WEGGEL: Mm-hmm.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: I'm going to guess because it's fall, you're eating a pear.
ANNA WEGGEL: Listen, I do have pears in my fridge, but they are so hard.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: No!
ANNA WEGGEL: And they're going to take weeks to ripen. I am eating big, purple grapes.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: [GASPS]
Big purple grapes! Ah!
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS] Uh-huh.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: I was a million miles away. I was totally off.
ANNA WEGGEL: I'm sorry. They're so good.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: All right, this is my redemption moment.
ANNA WEGGEL: OK, OK, OK, OK.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK. You're absolutely not going to get this one. It's too esoteric, too spontaneous, too strange. Are you ready?
ANNA WEGGEL: OK, I'm ready. Yeah, I'm so excited.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: I think this one's going to stump you because it's a really hard one.
[CRUNCH]
ANNA WEGGEL: You are eating a peanut butter and baloney sandwich that has been dipped in tomato soup.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Allow me to give you a hint because you are very cold.
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: This tasty treat fits in the palm of your hand. And I'll take another bite. And I think once I do, you'll have a better idea.
ANNA WEGGEL: OK, OK, OK.
[CRUNCH]
Peanut M&M.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Sorry, I'm still chewing.
ANNA WEGGEL: [CHUCKLES]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK, you're definitely hearing the crunch, which is important.
ANNA WEGGEL: OK.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Unfortunately, it's not a peanut M&M. In fact, I'm eating an apple.
ANNA WEGGEL: Oh, my gosh!
[LAUGHS]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Yeah
ANNA WEGGEL: I think I'm unwilling to picture healthy foods. And I just wanted it to be something better.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: If it makes you feel any better, it's the only healthy thing I have.
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS]
OK. Is it my turn now?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Yes.
ANNA WEGGEL: OK, my final one.
[CRUNCHING]
Mm!
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK.
ANNA WEGGEL: A little bit more?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Yeah, one more.
[CRUNCHING, CHEWING]
ANNA WEGGEL: Mm!
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK.
ANNA WEGGEL: My mouth is dry now.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: So I'm hearing something chewy and crunchy, and it makes your mouth dry.
ANNA WEGGEL: Mm-hmm.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: So I think it's--
ANNA WEGGEL: Very dry.
- So I imagine it's salty then because--
ANNA WEGGEL: Very, yeah.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK, OK, OK.
[SIGHS]
Gosh, this is so hard. Are you eating a granola bar?
ANNA WEGGEL: I wish.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Ah!
ANNA WEGGEL: This thing is rectangular.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK.
ANNA WEGGEL: It is beige. And it's often served with soup.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: OK. As we both know, I vehemently despise soup. I think it's--
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: I think it's toilet water with a college degree. I think it's one of the worst-- I think it's a beverage masquerading to be a food. But, usually--
ANNA WEGGEL: I mean. You're wrong.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: --usually with soup, they do serve crackers.
ANNA WEGGEL: Right, what kind?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Saltines?
ANNA WEGGEL: So close. What's Saltines' less popular cousin? What does your grandma have in her kitchen?
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: All right, well, certainly not soup, but--
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS] She should.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Graham crackers!
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS] No! You don't eat graham crackers with soup!
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: I don't know. I was going off of soup. I'm sorry.
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS]
OK, I--
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Oyster crackers.
ANNA WEGGEL: --this is-- no, you're getting very close. This is a small ramekin of club crackers.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Oh, my gosh. I would have never gotten that.
ANNA WEGGEL: The buttery, the delicious, the salty, the "melt in your mouth" club cracker. The green box, beige food.
[CHUCKLES]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Anna, I want you to know, I rarely go dancing, so I'm not really accustomed to club crackers. They're not happening as much for me.
ANNA WEGGEL: [LAUGHS]
Listen, join the club. Join the club cracker.
[CHUCKLES]
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: [BURPS]
ANNA WEGGEL: Oh, I'm so full, I can't take another bite.
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Ugh, me too.
[HOOTING]
ANNA WEGGEL: Who's that?
- That's the moving truck. We still need to move my cabinet, my couch, and my grandmother's antique cement mixer.
ANNA WEGGEL: Let's do this!
ARON WOLDESLASSIE: Yeah!
